Prevalence of Neisseria Gonorrhoea among Under Graduate Female Students of University Of Port Harcpurt Using Strand Displacement and Amplification (Sda) Technique
نویسنده
چکیده
Background: Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection can occur asymptomatically and due to the growth requirements in the laboratory, it can be easily missed even if it is symptomatic. Isolating the organism using conventional laboratory procedures has yielded varying degrees of sensitivity and specificity. Since there is paucity of information on the prevalence rate of the organism using nucleic acid amplification technique as the detection tool, this study became pertinent. Also, the associated risk factors to the infection on female undergraduate students were highlighted. Methodology: Two hundred undergraduate, non-pregnant, asymptomatic female students who were above the age of 16 years but not above the age of 30 years were randomly selected and given questionnaires with self administrable vaginal swab sticks. The participants completed the questionnaires and provided the vaginal swab specimens which were analyzed using Strand Displacement and Amplification Technique. Results: Out of the 200 sexually active participants, 10 tested positive, giving a prevalence of 5% for Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Some of the associated risk factors elicited were; having multiple sexual partners, irregular use of condom and past history of sexually transmitted infections Conclusion: There is a need for a policy on routine screening for Neisseria gonorrhoeae since the treatment is available but the complications are danderous to reproductive health.

Performance of strand displacement amplification assay in the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
This study is a critical analysis of certain amplification assays for detecting Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae infections which have demonstrated that the plasmid-free variant of C. trachomatis is frequently responsible for infection in our patients. Specifically, we evaluated the performance of the strand displacement amplification (SDA) assay in detecting either C. trachomati...
متن کاملDetection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae by strand displacement amplification and relevance of the amplification control for use with vaginal swab specimens.
Vaginal swab specimens may be preferable to cervical swab or urine specimens for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae because of the ease of specimen collection and transport. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether vaginal swab specimens are equivalent to cervical swab specimens for the detection of N. gonorrhoeae and C. trachomatis by the Becton Dickinson...

Self-collected glans and rectal swab specimens from men who have sex with men (MSM) may be appropriate, convenient specimens for testing. We evaluated the use of self-collected swabs for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae by a transcription-mediated amplification test (AC2; Aptima Combo 2; Gen-Probe Inc.) and a strand displacement amplification test (SDA; ProbeTec;...

OBJECTIVES This study sought to determine the prevalence of common bacterial sexually transmitted infections, including Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, in women attending clinics in the Solomon Islands. METHODS We conducted a sexual health survey among women attending three nurse-led community outpatient clinics in August 2014, to establish the prevalence of bacterial sexuall...
